GAME 6: (3) UTEP 66, (11) Southern Miss 47
With the win, UTEP improves to 20-8 overall and has reached the 20-win plateau for the third consecutive season and for the 21st time in school history. The Miners now advance to Friday's semifinal round.
UTEP, making their first appearance in the C-USA Tournament, reached the championship game of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in each of the last two seasons. The Miners lost to Nevada 66-60 in 2004 and defeated Boise State 91-78 last season.
UTEP closed out the first half with a 10-0 run to enter halftime with a 33-20 lead.
The Miners shot 50% from the floor, while limiting Southern Miss to 37% shooting in the game.
UTEP was led by Jason Williams who scored a game-high 14 points. Southern Miss was paced by Mildon Ambres who scored nine points.
Southern Miss and UTEP faced each other once during the regular season with the Minters taking a 77-72 double-overtime victory on Feb. 11 in Hattiesburg.
